2003 Beep Baseball World Series Champions!
August 2003, The Chicago Comets make history. For the first time in the 28-year history of the National Beep Baseball Association (NBBA.) a team from Chicago has won the World Series. This year the Comets finally accomplished what no team before them had been able to do - -bring the championship trophy home to Chicago. The Comets played great defense and hit the ball well all week long. On the road to the Championship they had to play 3 of the 4 top seeded teams in the tournament. “Winning the World Series was quite an accomplishment, we worked hard and played as a team all year long and it paid off for us in the tournament.” said Coach Herzog. Chicago Comets Beep Baseball Team is a group of Blind and Visually Impaired
athletes from the Chicago land area who love to play baseball. The Comets are
members of the National Beep Baseball Association (NBBA) and compete against
other NBBA teams from all over the country. Beep Baseball is a version of conventional baseball that has been adapted to allow visually impaired athletes to compete. In Beep baseball we use 16” softballs that beep and 4’ tall bases that buzz which allow Blind and Visually Impaired Athletes to participate and enjoy America’s Pastime! The Comets get together to practice every Saturday at Rainey Park in Chicago. They play in several regional tournaments across the Midwest each year. The Comets schedule includes tournaments in Indianapolis, IN - Oklahoma City, OK - Cleveland, OH, and our own local tournament in Bolingbrook, IL. The 2004 World series will be played in Columbus, OH. For more information about the Rules of Beep Baseball or to experience the fun and excitement for yourself come out and see a game. |
